Note: Do not use vinegar or an acetic acid-based descaler, as this could have a negative effect on the
taste of the tea.
1 Put the citric acid-based descaler in the teapot (Fig. 38).
Note: If you use the citric acid-based descaler developed for SENSEO
®
machines, use one sachet.
Note: If you use another type of citric acid-based descaler than the citric acid-based descaler for
SENSEO
®
machines, follow the instructions on the package of the descaler and adjust this to the amount
of water in the teapot (700ml).
2 Add lukewarm water to the teapot up to the MAX indication (700ml) (Fig. 9).
3 Stir until the citric acid-based descaler is largely dissolved in the water or properly mixed
with the water (Fig. 39).
Use a wooden or plastic spatula to stir the solution in the teapot. Do not use metal, sharp or
abrasive kitchen utensils.
4 Put the lid on the teapot (Fig. 40).
5 Put the mains plug in an earthed wall socket (Fig. 11).
6 Press the on/off button to switch on the appliance (Fig. 41).
, The quick-select buttons and the personal settings button light up.
7 Press the black tea button and the rooibos button at the same time to start the 30-minute
descaling program (Fig. 42).
Note: If you remove the teapot from the base during the descaling program, the descaling process is
aborted. To restart the descaling process, put the teapot back onto the base and press the black tea
button and the rooibos button at the same time again.
, During the descaling program, the appliance automatically heats up the water and keeps track
of the descaling time. The segments of the light ring light up one by one to show how much
ofthe30-minutedescalingprogramhaspassed.Whenthedescalingprogramisnished,the
wholelightringashesandyouhearabellsound(Fig.43).
Note: If you do not remove the teapot from the base within 5 minutes after the bell sound, the appliance
switches off automatically.
8 Whenthedescalingprogramisnished,pourthedescalingliquidintothesink.(Fig.44)
9 Repeat the descaling procedure as often as necessary to remove all scale from the teapot.
Note: Each descaling mixture can be used only once. After use, the descaling mixture is no longer active.
10 Rinse the teapot (including the spout) with fresh water at least 4 times (Fig. 45).
11 Rinse the lid (Fig. 7).
Storage
1 Switch off and unplug the appliance.
2 To store the mains cord, wind it round the reel in the base. Wedge the cord into the slot in
the base (Fig. 46).
3 Store the appliance in a safe, dry place.
