2.5.2 Gas Bottles
s Inspect the gas tube fitted to the gas bottle connection for tightness. The gas tube
should have no tears and should not be porous. If necessary have the gas tube
changed in an authorised workshop.
s Due to its function and construction, the gas bottle compartment is a space which is
open to the exterior. In order to enable leaking gas to immediately be dispersed out-
side, the standard forced ventilation is never to be blocked or covered.
s Do not use the gas bottle compartment for storage.
s Lock the gas bottle compartment in order to prevent unauthorised persons opening it.
s The regulator tap on the gas bottle must be accessible.
s Only connect gas-operated devices (e. g. gas grill) which have been designed for a
gas pressure of 30 mbar.
s The exhaust pipe must be fitted tightly to the heating system and to the chimney and
must be sealed. The exhaust gas pipe must not show any evidence of damage.
s Waste air must be able to leave and fresh air must be able to enter unhindered. For
this reason, no snow walls or aprons must be allowed to lie against the vehicle. Keep
the intake openings under the floor of the vehicle open and clean.
s Gas bottles are only to be transported within the designated gas bottle compartment.
s Secure gas bottles in the gas bottle compartment in a vertical position and so that
they are unable to turn.
s Close the regulator tap on the gas bottle before the gas pressure regulator or gas
tube are removed from the gas bottle.
s Use your hands only to connect the gas pressure regulator to the gas cylinder. Do not
use any tools.
s Only use special gas pressure regulators with a safety valve designed for vehicle
use. Other gas pressure regulators are not permitted and cannot meet the demand-
ing requirements.
s Use the gas pressure regulator defroster if the temperature falls below 5 °C.
s Use only 11 kg or 5 kg gas bottles! Camping gas bottles with a built-in reflux valve
(blue bottle with max. 2.5 or 3 kg content) are permitted in exceptional cases with a
safety valve.
s Use the shortest possible hose lengths (150 cm max.) for external gas bottles.
s Check the gas tube regularly for wear and tear. Note the expiry date.
s When aluminium gas bottles are used, never block the floor ventilation openings be-
low the gas bottles.

What should I keep in mind when I put my caravan into winter storage? Verified

Make sure that all water is removed from boilers, tanks and toilets. It is also wise to remove the battery. Store this in a warm place and use a trickle charger to keep it charged. Tire pressure can decrease due to the cold, making it a good idea to icrease pressure with 0,5 bar before storage. It might also be a good idea to place a moisture absorber in the caravan during storage.

How long can a caravan stand outside? Verified

A caravan is made to be outside and can therefore be left outside. However, when the caravan is not in use, it is better to store it dry and covered. This extends the lifespan of the caravan. If the caravan is left outside for a long time, it can sustain damage. For example, the sun can dry out sealing rubbers and moss can form. An alternative to storage can be to put a protective cover over the caravan.
