M4A1 SHERMAN M4A1 SHERMAN

Im Januar 1944 wurde der neue Typ des Sherman M4A1 ein-

geführt. Trotz seiner verbesserten 76 mm Kanone und eines

komplett neuen Turms blieben Mängel in der Panzerung,

sodass der Bug und die Seiten oft zusätzlich geschützt wur-

den. Aufgrund der zahlenmäßigen Überlegenheit und großen

Beweglichkeit gelang es den amerikanischen Sherman gegen

deutsche Panzer standzuhalten. Der Panzer wurde auf vielen

Kriegsschauplätzen eingesetzt.

The new type Sherman M4A1 was introduced in January 1944.

Despite an improved 76 mm gun and a completely new turret,

the armament continued to be deficient so that the front end

and sides would frequently require additional protection.

Thanks to their superior numbers and good manoeuvrability,

the American Sherman managed to stand up to the German

tanks. This tank has been deployed in many war theatres.
