Self-propelled Assault Gun IV

Das Sturmgeschütz IV basiert auf dem Fahrgestell des PzKpfw.

IV und einem modifizierten Aufbau des StuG III. Die wesentli-

chen Veränderungen waren eine um 30 mm verstärkte Front -

panzerungen (80 mm), ein verlängertes Vorderteil und seitliche

Schürzen für zusätzlichen Flankenschutz. Insgesamt wurden

1943 und 1944 ca. 1.100 Exemplare hergestellt. Besatzung: 4

Mann; Bewaffnung: Geschütz 75 mm, ein MG 42, 7,92 mm;

Motorleistung: 300 PS; Geschwindigkeit: 38 km/h. Dieser

Panzerjäger wurde auf allen Kriegsschauplätzen eingesetzt,

auch für die Infanterieunterstützung.

The self-propelled assault gun IV is based on the chassis of the

PzKpfw IV medium tank and a modified superstructure of the

StuG III assault gun. The essential alterations were the rein-

forcement by 30 mm of the front armour (80 mm), a length-

ened front section and side skirts for additional flank protec-

tion. In 1943 and 1944 a total of approx. 1,100 were made.

Crew: 4 man; armament: 75 mm gun, a 7.92 mm MG 42;

engine capacity: 300 hp; speed: 38 km/h. This tank destroyer

was used in all theatres of war, including for infantry support.
