Question: I can't get the round gray piece out of the clear bracket where the mirror goes. It's supposed to get in and out with ease

No, nor can I. The pieces are shown as separate items in the manual (139298 and 139299) but they are assembled in the packaging and can't be separated to enable the disk to be screwed to the wall. Really shoddy and makes the mirror almost unusable. Almost, because you can try sticking the mirror to the wall.
