pendant près de 80 années à développer son art, l’art horloger.

Pendant plusieurs années, il consacre la plupart de son temps à
mettre au point un système de remontage automatique fiable
et robuste (vers 1760). Dans cette idée, il y a certes la notion
utopique du mouvement perpétuel, mais surtout la notion
pratique qui permet d’éviter le fastidieux remontage à clef des
montres de poche. Vers 1770, Abraham-Louis Perrelet avait
déjà mis au point et monté plusieurs mouvements équipés
de masse de remontage dite « marteau », développant une
première version du mouvement à remontage automatique
appelé « mouvement à secousse ».
Quelques années plus tard – et après plusieurs problèmes de
résistance dus aux chocs subis par le mouvement lorsque la
masse « marteau » termine sa course – il met au point un sys-
tème de masse oscillante, fixée sur l’axe central du mouvement
et appelée communément aujourd’hui « le rotor ».
