USER INSTRUCTIONS
30, 40, 50 AND 70 / 80
WALL MOUNTED, FAN ASSISTED, BALANCED FLUE, CONDENSING BOILER
INFORMATION :
This is a condensing boiler and because of the way it works it will appear to produce a lot of steam from the
terminal, this is harmless vapour and quite normal. The boiler requires a drain to be permanently connected,
this has been done by your installer. If this should become blocked, for any reason, the boiler will stop
functioning as a safety measure. In freezing conditions ensure the external drain is kept free of ice.
The Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1994 makes it illegal for gas appliances to be installed
or serviced by persons not competent to do so.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT DISTURB APPLIANCE CASE. THE APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.
ELECTRICAL SUPPLY: The boiler must be connected to a 230v ~ 50 Hz supply and fused 3A.
TO LIGHT THE BOILER:
With the Electricity supply switched on, the system programmer and thermostats in a demand position, and
the front panel boiler thermostat fully clockwise, the boiler 'ON' lamp will be lit and the boiler will start
automatically. The 'ON' lamp will go out when the thermostats are satisfied or if the programmer is off.
If the boiler fails to start and the LOCKOUT lamp is lit, press the reset switch, this is beneath the boiler at
the position marked on the front.
If the boiler does not start after using the reset allow the boiler to cool, then press the reset again. If this still
does not succeed in getting the boiler run, or if a fault is suspected turn the boiler and programmer to 'OFF'
and call the assistance of a qualified Service Engineer.
The variable thermostat on the front panel adjusts the temperature of the water in the system, the more
clockwise, the hotter the system will be. For maximum economy use the lowest setting that still obtains
comfortable room temperatures, but still provides satisfactory hot water performance. Fully anti-clockwise
will switch the boiler off.
Please note, it is normal for the boiler to switch on and off under the control of the system and its
own thermostat . Because of a built-in delay timer, there will be a few minutes delay between the
boiler Control Thermostat being turned on, and ignition .
TO TURN THE BOILER OFF FOR A SHORT PERIOD:
Turn the boiler thermostat fully anti-clockwise and the programmer to an 'OFF' setting.
TO TURN THE BOILER OFF FOR A LONG PERIOD:
Turn the boiler thermostat fully anti-clockwise and the programmer to an 'OFF' setting. Switch off the
Electricity supply to the system.
If the boiler is going to be off for a long period in the winter it is strongly recommended that the system is
drained.
MAINTENANCE:
There are no user serviceable parts. To clean the case, wipe with a damp cloth, do not use an abrasive
cleaner. It is recommended that the boiler and system are serviced once a year and only by a qualified
Service Engineer.

Frequently Asked Questions about Malvern 50 Boiler

Our support team searches for useful product information and answers to frequently asked questions. If you find an inaccuracy in our frequently asked questions, please let us know by using our contact form.

My boiler will only produce lukewarm water, why is that? Verified

This probably means that the thermostat is broken. Contact the manufacturer for advice.

Is it useful to switch off my boiler during absence or vacation? Verified

Many modern boilers are very energy efficient. During an absence or vacation that lasts 1 week or less it will take more energy to heat the water again than to keep the water at the current temperature. During absences that last longer than 1 week it might save energy to switch off the boiler.

There is water coming from the pressure relief valve, is that normal? Verified

Yes, a boiler is a pressure vessel. When pressure gets too high, the boiler will lower this by releasing water through the pressure relief valve. The installer of the boiler should have attached proper drainage.

What is the best place to install my boiler? Verified

The best place to install the boiler is close to the location where the most warm water will be used (ie: bathroom). This ensures a quick supply of warm water and minimal heat loss.

What is the difference between a boiler and a gas boiler? Verified

A boiler heats the water before you want to use it. A gas boiler heats the water at the moment that it is needed. This means that with a regular boiler, you can run out of warm water when the reservoir is empty.
