How often should I defrost my freezer? Verified

For optimal use of the freezer it is best to defrost it once every 3-6 months. Ice on the inside of the freezer reduces the available space and increases the use of energy. The thawing process can be accelerated by placing hot water in the drawer or placing bowls of hot water in the freezer.

After 4 days of the Chest Freezer working, all items have been frozen . I turned the Thermostat Control to the "Off" position but the Freezer didn't shut down. The power light is still on and I can hear the whirring sound just like when the Freezer is working normally. My question is why, is the motor still running when the Thermostat Control is at the off position? Thank You
