Was sind Irrlichter?

Irrlichter sind kleine Leuchterscheinungen, die man im Moor,

Sümpfen oder in dichten Wäldern über dem Boden schwebend

sieht. Sie ﬂackern meistens nur für eine kurze Zeit bläulich oder

rötlich auf und erlöschen dann wieder. Der Name kommt mögli-

cherweise von den Irrwischen, das sind Naturgeister. Er könnte

auch mit dem Wort „herumirren“ zu tun haben. Wenn ein

Wanderer dem Irrlicht folgt, kann er vom Weg abkommen.

Deshalb glauben viele Menschen an alte Geschichten, die besa-

gen, dass die Irrlichter Unglück bringen sollen. Sie kommen in

Sagen, Liedern und Märchen fast in der ganzen Welt vor.

Wissenschaftler sind sich nicht sicher, was Irrlichter tatsächlich

sind. Es kann sein, dass es sich um Verwechslungen mit unter-

schiedlichen Arten von Lichtern in der Natur handelt. Manche Tiere

und Pﬂanzen leuchten von selbst. Das nennt man Biolumineszenz.

Ein bekanntes Beispiel ist das Glühwürmchen. Es gibt auch Arten

von Pilzen, die im Dunkeln glühen.Eine andere mögliche Erklärung

sind Gase, die entstehen, wenn Pﬂanzenteile im Sumpf verfaulen.

Dieses kann sich selbst entzünden und dann als kurz aufﬂam-

mendes Licht erscheinen. Irrlichter bleiben also ein faszinierendes

Phänomen, das auch in unserem Spiel für viel Spannung sorgt.

Seid gespannt und lasst euch bloß nicht in die Irre führen.
