A planer is designed to remove material in precise
increments from the surface of natural wood fiber
stock to make the workpiece flat.
Once the depth of cut is set, the workpiece is
placed on the table and fed into the infeed roller,
as shown in Figure 1, which pulls the workpiece
under the rotating cutterhead where the material
is removed. After the workpiece is completely
free from the outfeed roller, the depth of cut is
increased and the workpiece is passed through
the planer again. This process continues until the
workpiece is flat and of the correct thickness.
