What is the difference between a bed frame and a box spring?

"A bed frame only holds a mattress, but offers no damping or other form of comfort. A box spring is a mattress carrier that is filled with metal coils. The space between the coils provides extra ventilation. On top of the box spring you add a mattress and possibly a mattress topper. The combination of a box spring and mattress gives a good distribution of weight and good ventilation."
