Before the Journey
3.6.2 Loading the Caravan Correctly
The payload arrangement recommended cannot be adhered to consequently as the storage facili-
ties are to be found throughout the complete caravan. Ensure that heavy items are close to the axles
and the lower area, i.e. directly above the vehicle floor. Store heavy objects (awning, tent
poles, etc.), if possible, in the towing vehicle.
Incorrectly loaded
:
Loads stored apart from each other lead to incli-
nation to skid.
Fig. 5 Incorrect weight distribution
Correctly loaded:
Do not store heavy objects such as awnings, tin
cans, etc. in the caravan but rather in the towing
vehicle. Secure bicycles on the roof of the tow-
ing vehicle.
Store all loads close to the axle.
Fig. 6 Correct weight distribution
s Distribute the payload evenly between the left-hand and right-hand sides of the vehi-
cle.
s Store heavy objects (tent poles, tin cans, etc.) close to the axles so that they cannot
slip, e. g.
- in deeper storage compartments, the doors of which do not open in the direction of
travel
- on the floor
s Store lighter objects (laundry) in the roof storage compartments.
s Load the bike rack with bicycles only.
s For safety reasons, weigh the loaded vehicle before commencing the journey.
s For vehicles with tandem axles, distribute the weight centre over both axles.
s Never concentrate the caravan
load at the rear!

What should I keep in mind when I put my caravan into winter storage? Verified

Make sure that all water is removed from boilers, tanks and toilets. It is also wise to remove the battery. Store this in a warm place and use a trickle charger to keep it charged. Tire pressure can decrease due to the cold, making it a good idea to icrease pressure with 0,5 bar before storage. It might also be a good idea to place a moisture absorber in the caravan during storage.

How long can a caravan stand outside? Verified

A caravan is made to be outside and can therefore be left outside. However, when the caravan is not in use, it is better to store it dry and covered. This extends the lifespan of the caravan. If the caravan is left outside for a long time, it can sustain damage. For example, the sun can dry out sealing rubbers and moss can form. An alternative to storage can be to put a protective cover over the caravan.
